They are fun, until one person leaves...then leave fever strikes and half my team was gone in 2 minutes...
So far, I don't know if I'll ever do Alliance battles again, too many people leave, its worse than RA.

Here's the in-game rules for Alliance Battles:
GIVE ME A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE OBJECTIVES:
The goal here is to amass 500 points before the other team.
You gain points by killing opposing players and maintaining possession over control points, of which there are 7 in total. Of the 7 total control points, there are 4 different types: 2 resurrection shrines, 2 defensive points, 2 attack points, and a dragon roost.
EXPLAIN HOW TO CAPTURE KEY POINTS:
A control point is captured when your team outnumbers the enemy players within range of the contested location.
While capturing, there are 4 rates of change: 1 additional player (approximately 20 seconds to change the point state), 2 additional players (approximately 15 seconds to change the point state), 3 additional players (approximately 11 seconds to change the point state), and 4 or more additional players (approximately 8 seconds to change the point state).
As long as your aggro circle overlaps the control point, you are counted as a capturing team member.
Capture points have 3 states: enemy control, neutral control, and friendly control.
Finally, pets, minions, Spirits, and so on are excluded from capturing control points.
INFORM ME ABOUT THE RESURRECTION SHRINES:
Resurrection shrines allow you to revive closer to the battlefield. Capture of a shrine will spawn an NPC Monk to help maintain control. Once the monk is dead, however, he won't respawn. Monks are counted as teammates when capturing a control point.
I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ATTACK POINTS:
Attack points give your team a battle cry; players within range receive a speed boost, attack speed buff, and faster skill recharge for 60 seconds. The battle cry will be applied as long as you are in the area. Two NPC Rangers will spawn to assist you in maintaining control. Much like a player, the Rangers contribute to your team's capturing power. Conversely, once the Rangers die, they will not respawn until the next point switch.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT DEFENSE POINTS:
Defensive points give your team a Shielding Urn; players within the radius of the dropped urn share damage reduction. As long as you control this point, a new urn will spawn 30 seconds after the current one is used. An NPC Ritualist will spawn to assist you in maintaining control. Much like a player, the Ritualist contributes to your team's capturing power, but his spirits will not. Conversely, if the Ritualist dies, he will not respawn until the next point switch. If you lose control of a defensive point, your Shielding Urn will disappear.
I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DRAGON ROOST:
The dragon roost will spawn a Saltspray Hatchling that can be used as a follower. The hatchling contributes to capturing and holding a control point similar to a human player. The hatchling respawns 60 seconds after it dies. If you lose control of the dragon roost, your Saltspray Hatchling dies.
NOTES: base defenders insta-kill people

These aren't guild battles.
Think of the area as Random Arena and Team Arena combined.
You CAN form your own team of 4 (IE: team arena).
Or, you can be placed randomly (IE: random arena).

That... was the funnest. Thing. EVAR.
>=D I am SOOOO not leaving the Alliance battles for the rest of the weekend.
My first try with my mate Eviance and her brother, we were behind 80-140; and then all of us figured out what the heck we were doing, and came back to stomp the competition.
I think I'll go alliance battle now, in fact.

Nope.
Its just like random arena's. Alliance Battles have nothing to do with guilds.

You can, assuming you have a Guild Hall. Visit the appropriate Alliance representative there.

I haven't played since posting this (damn sleep and work), but I wanted to mention something important before I forget about it. I don't know if this has been mentioned yet elsewhere.
BIG NOTE: I don't know how much faction you get if you win (I'm 0 for 2 as a Luxon) but you DO get faction based on your score at the end of the game.
So, in example, in my game where I lost.. I still gained 454 Luxon faction where Faction Fest and Soldier Warrior didn't because they left.
If you realllly want alliance faction, don't leave your games even if you're losing badly!

No.
It sounds like you can access the character from a town, but I haven't gotten there yet to confirm it.
Also, it's not that difficult to make a guild.
Worst case scenario, I'll invite you into my guild (which is currently just me and two friends that haven't logged in, in over 2 months).
Asrial Novastar is my IGN.

You definately can get there from your Faction's main town ^^
I've found it very fun. A bit annoying at first, but once I realised you really just have to push up with your team (or lead them if they don't) and take all the points. Victory will follow ^^
